Deadpool & Wolverine (2024) Review ★★★★☆
Loud, shrill, dirty, brutal, somehow honest, sometimes mean and above all fanservice deluxe.
Deadpool & Wolverine is cool, but nothing more. I really enjoyed watching it in the cinema last night, but throughout I had the feeling that the film couldn't decide whether to be a serious Marvel film or wacky Deadpool action, which rarely takes itself seriously and underlines this several times when breaking through the 4th wall.
It was cool: Wolverine in his long-awaited suit. Lady Deadpool and numerous cameos, some superfluous, some ingenious. Plus lots of blood, a really nasty “final boss” and a constant stream of weird ideas and allusions. It's a wildly mixed potpourri of superheroes and comic influences and therefore everything that the nerd with his favourite sock over his best piece – I only borrowed this from Deadpool – has always wanted. But that's not what makes a really good film. It's mindless fun that lacks polish and a single defined direction.
In short: Watch the movie if you liked Deadpool 1 & 2. However, if you adore the old X-Men movies and are hoping for some kind of sequel here, you'll be terribly disappointed.
